LSI is a misnomer that stuck. Google has said it does not use latent semantic indexing, but it does judge a page by the company its words keep. A page about espresso machines that never mentions grinders, pressure, milk frothing or the brands people compare reads as thin next to one that does. These related terms are how you cover a topic the way the top results do, and the questions are the headings and FAQ entries that win featured snippets.
Terms that tend to appear alongside your main keyword on pages about the same topic: synonyms, sub-topics, related entities and the questions people ask. The name comes from a 1980s indexing technique Google does not use. The idea of covering related concepts still holds.
Not the technique. Google's own staff have said so. Google does judge whether a page covers a topic fully, and pages that use the vocabulary of the topic naturally tend to rank better than pages that repeat one phrase.
Use the ones that belong. A 1,500 word post usually works in 8 to 15 related terms without forcing anything, plus two or three of the questions as headings. Do not paste the whole list in.
