# Update your card or fix a failed payment

Change the card on file, and get articles running again after a payment did not go through.

If a payment fails, new articles and backlinks pause until the invoice is paid. Paying it switches everything back on straight away.

## Update your card

1. Open the account menu and choose **Manage subscription**.
2. On the **Payment method** card, choose **Update card**.
3. Add the new card in the secure Stripe page and save.

## Fix a failed payment

1. A banner at the top of the app says your last payment didn't go through.
2. Choose **Pay invoice** (or **Update payment** if there is no open invoice).
3. Pay with a working card.

## Check it works

The banner disappears and **Manage subscription** shows **Active**. Planned articles start publishing again.

## Good to know

- Most failures are insufficient funds or a prepaid card. Prepaid cards often fail on recurring payments, so a regular debit or credit card works better.
- Cards issued outside the US sometimes need you to approve the payment in your banking app.
- You can also change the card from **Settings** with **Change billing details**.
- Nothing is lost while payment is paused: your planned [articles](/ai-content-writer) and your [backlink exchange](/backlink-exchange) settings stay as they were.
