How to use

Paste the page title or the phrase you want in the URL. Keep hyphens as the separator unless your platform requires underscores, and set a maximum length if your CMS has one. Press Generate. The slug and an example URL appear with copy buttons. Trim filler words like the and a by hand if the slug is still long, and keep the keyword at the front.

Why it matters

The slug is the part of the URL after the last slash, and it is visible in search results, in shared links and in the address bar. A short slug with the keyword in it tells searchers and Google what the page is before it loads. Changing a slug later means a redirect and a temporary dip, so getting it right at publish time is cheaper than fixing it.

FAQ

Hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator and an underscore as a joiner, so blue-widgets is read as two words and blue_widgets as one.

Three to five words is a good range. Slugs over about 75 characters get cut in search results and are hard to type or share.

Not unless it will always be true. A slug with 2026 in it looks stale next year and forces a redirect when you update the post. Keep dates in the title, not the URL.
